How Not to Approach 2025 as a Single

This topic has been heavy on my heart for weeks. At first, ingratitude was the only word that kept echoing in my spirit. I struggled to fully grasp what the Holy Spirit wanted me to understand until He directed me to Isaiah 43:18-19. When I read this passage, it became clear—it holds the key to approaching 2025, not just as singles but as individuals seeking growth and purpose. Let’s look at what this scripture says and how it can guide us.

1. Let Go of the Past

"Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past." – Isaiah 43:18 (NIV)

The first call is simple yet profound—let go. Stop replaying the failures, disappointments, and heartbreaks of previous years. Many people carried the hurts of 2023 into 2024, and now they’re preparing to carry those same wounds into 2025. But God is saying, enough!

It’s time to break free from the cycle of rehearsing regrets and nursing past wounds. Maybe things didn’t go as planned. Maybe you thought you’d be married by now, or that certain relationships would work out—but they didn’t. That’s okay. What’s not okay is allowing those experiences to define you and rob you of the new things God wants to do in your life.

Reflection Questions:

  • What memories or disappointments are you still holding onto?
  • How are they affecting your ability to move forward?

2. Embrace Gratitude

One of the biggest hindrances to embracing the new is ingratitude. It blinds us to what God is doing and keeps us focused on what didn’t happen. Instead of giving thanks for the blessings we experienced, we often fixate on what went wrong—who hurt us, what prayers seemed unanswered, or how life didn’t meet our expectations. But the truth is, ingratitude stunts growth. The enemy loves to magnify what’s missing so we forget what’s present. He wants us so focused on disappointments that we fail to see God’s fingerprints in our lives.

1 Thessalonians 5:18 reminds us: “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” Gratitude is a posture of faith. It shifts our focus from what’s behind us to what’s ahead of us.

A Practical Step:

As you read this, I want you to grab a journal. Write down at least three things you’re thankful for today—big or small—and make it a daily habit. Watch how gratitude shifts your perspective and opens your heart to see God’s hand in every season.

3. Watch with Expectation

"See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?" – Isaiah 43:19 (NIV) After calling us to forget the past, God shifts our focus to the future. He’s not just asking us to let go; He’s asking us to watch—to look ahead with expectation. When God says, “I am doing a new thing,” He’s inviting us to trust Him for something fresh, something unexpected. But here’s the key—you can’t step into the new if your heart and mind are still trapped in the old.

God is asking: “Do you not perceive it?”The word perceive implies intentional awareness. It’s not passive waiting but active anticipation. God wants us to step into 2025 with eyes of faith, looking for signs of His work in our lives.

Reflection Questions:

  • Are you watching with expectation, or are you bracing for disappointment?
  • What new thing might God be inviting you to step into this coming year?

As you approach 2025, it’s time to reroute your focus. Stop looking back, stop brooding over what didn’t work, and stop clinging to old patterns that no longer serve you. Instead: Release the past. Embrace gratitude. Expect God to do something new.

Remember, God makes streams in the desert (Isaiah 43:19). He specializes in bringing life to barren places and hope to weary hearts. So, don’t let the hurts or disappointments of 2024 dictate how you enter 2025. Step forward with faith and gratitude, knowing that the One who began a good work in you will be faithful to complete it (Philippians 1:6).

God is already at work in your life, even if you can’t fully see it yet. Let this be the year you break free from the past, cultivate gratitude, and boldly step into the new things He has prepared for you. 2025 isn’t just another year—it’s an opportunity to see God move like never before. Are you ready?

I want you to say this short prayer "Lord, as I step into 2025, help me release what’s behind me and focus on what’s ahead. Fill my heart with gratitude and faith, and open my eyes to the new things You are doing in my life." Amen.
